A middle aged farmer has been apprehended for allegedly killing a 75 year-old man, Mr. Olusegun Oyadele and a police officer who tried to arrest him on his farm settlement known as Onipetesi camp in Ondo west local government area of Ondo state.
The suspect simply identified as “At-all-at-all”, was alleged to have hacked the septuagenarian to death with cutlass in the early hours of Saturday while the old man was trying to dry his cocoa seeds at the farm settlement.
An eye witness revealed that there was no altercation between the suspect and the old man before he suddenly pounced on him and machete him to death.
Confirming the incident to Radio Nigeria, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Femi Joseph, said men of the command from Enu-owa police station mobilised themselves after the case was reported by one Veronica Olawale.
The PPRO said four officers visited the scene of the incident but in an attempt to arrest the suspect, he also hacked to death one of the policemen who came for his arrest, while four other inhabitants of Onipetesi farm settlement were also attacked by the suspect by a cutlass.
Mr Joseph said it took combined efforts of a vigilante group and the police team led by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju, to arrest the suspect in the forest after thirteen hours of search.
The police spokesman said the suspected killer was arrested in a forest around Tekunle village at Bolorunduro in Ondo east local government area of the state.
