The gunman who allegedly killed a personnel of the Directorate of Security Service (DSS) named Mr. Michael Orusede, in Cross River state has been arrested.
The suspect was nabbed by a vigilante group in Obanliku Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that Mr. Orusede was stabbed to death while trying to disarm an irate gunman last Thursday in Sankwala, headquarters of Obanliku LGA.
The deceased was stabbed when he attempted to pick up a gun that was surrendered by the irate gunman who stabbed him in the chest.
The gunman had also in the process shot the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Obanliku Police Division, Mr. Effiong Okon, at close range before escaping from the scene of the incident but the officer was wearing a bullet proof vest, so nothing happened to him.
On Monday, the alleged gunman who was identified as Emmanuel Kpongkpong tried to escape to Cameroon but was arrested in the Bomaji Mountain in Boki LGA.
The suspect has been taken to the state Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar. The village head of Sankwala was arrested by the police in Obanliku Division and he was given an order to produce the gunman.
The arrested village head directed the vigilante group, made up of youth leaders of various communities, to look for the gunman, which they did. They arrested the gunman in Bomaji Mountain while attempting to escape to Cameroon.
The youths brought Emmanuel Kpongkpong to the police station and used him to secure the release of their village head, according to reports.
